Iron Galaxy Lays Off 66 Developers as Industry Struggles Continue

Iron Galaxy has let go of 66 employees, joining the growing list of studios forced to make tough calls in a struggling industry.
In a statement on LinkedIn, the studio said it had done its best to avoid this outcome but had "run out of room to maneuver amidst this slow recovery." Translation: things aren’t looking great, and cutting jobs was the only option left.
"This was a means of last resort for us," the studio said, emphasizing that they don’t take layoffs lightly. They also reassured everyone that they remain committed to making games, working with partners, and generally keeping the lights on.
Right now, their focus is on helping the affected employees find new roles. "Keep an eye out for them if you need good people," the statement concluded—because nothing says we appreciate you like a LinkedIn shoutout on the way out the door.
This comes just months after CEO Adam Boyes left the studio in August following eight years at the helm. Boyes, who previously held leadership roles at PlayStation, Capcom, and EA, likely left just in time to avoid this mess.
Unfortunately, Iron Galaxy isn’t alone in this. The industry continues to shed jobs at an alarming rate. In January alone, over 700 developers have been laid off, with cuts at Ubisoft, Splash Damage, Piranha Games, and others. And, because bad news loves company, ProbablyMonsters also announced another round of layoffs earlier today.
At this rate, job security in gaming is starting to feel like a fantasy RPG—something that exists in theory but rarely in practice.
