Marvel Rivals Hits 40 Million Players; Update Patch Brings DLSS 4, AMD Anti-Lag 2

NetEase dropped some big numbers in today’s Q4 earnings call—Marvel Rivals has now surpassed 40 million players across all platforms. Not bad for a game that’s only been out a couple of months.

It launched on December 6, immediately shot to the top of Steam’s global sales chart, and racked up 10 million players in just three days. The big Season 1 update in January pushed it back to No. 1 on Steam’s best-sellers and most-played lists, proving that superhero fever is alive and well.

For context, Marvel Rivals had already hit 20 million players within 11 days and reportedly pulled in over $135 million in its first month. Naturally, NetEase responded to this runaway success by—laying off the Western support team. Fans weren’t thrilled, but hey, the game is still getting updates. Just with a development team based in China now, where things are a bit more budget-friendly.

Fantastic Four Finally Finish Arriving

Tomorrow’s patch completes the Fantastic Four lineup with:

  • Human Torch – A Duelist, because setting things on fire is a time-honored competitive strategy.

  • The Thing – A Vanguard, because it would be weird if the walking brick wall played any other role.

There’s also a new Convergence map called Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park, which is basically spooky, cursed NYC.

Other Gameplay Tweaks:

  • Overtime grace period increased by 0.5 seconds. Because losing a match just because your character blinked at the wrong moment is a tragedy.

  • No more last-second matchmaking subs in Quick Mode. If a match is already wrapping up, it’ll just let the suffering end.

  • Faster loading times. Because waiting for a game is scientifically proven to be more painful than playing one.

Technical Upgrades:

For the PC players:

  • NVIDIA DLSS 4 support, including Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 Series GPUs. This should help with frame rates—assuming you own a graphics card that costs more than rent.

  • AMD Radeon Anti-Lag 2 is now live, reducing system latency for those with RX 5000 Series GPUs or newer. FSR 3 Frame Generation also got some frame pacing improvements, meaning smoother performance across the board.

So, Marvel Rivals keeps getting bigger, the updates keep rolling in, and the game is still printing money. Now if only we could get some actual villains added to the roster—just saying, it’s not really Marvel without a little more Doom.
