Review: Digseum

Disgseum is an excavation and museum-building game by Rat Monthly, inspired by the digging mini-game in Pokemon Platinum and popular incremental games like To the Core... And it only costs $2.99 on Steam. It’s packed with simple but satisfying mechanics that make it hard to stop playing. Here’s why it stands out.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The main goal in Disgseum is to dig for relics to display in your museum. Each dig uses stamina so you have to plan wisely. Finding relics increases the value of your museum, which brings in more visitors and earns you more money. The game’s progression feels natural, with overlapping systems like leveling up excavation sites, earning boosts, and upgrading your tools.

When you find duplicates of relics they level up and become more valuable. This creates a rewarding cycle where even repeated digs feel worthwhile. There are also lots of upgrades to unlock, like better stamina, stronger pickaxes, and improved marketing, which keeps the gameplay fresh.

Relic Hunting and Exploration

Each dig site has its own unique artifacts, like petrified animals and glowing dream fragments. You can choose where to dig, but some relics are hidden in tricky spots, so experimenting with different digging patterns is important.

Dream fragments add another fun aspect to the game. These rare items unlock upgrades in the Dream Tree, which boosts relic value, increases income, or allows you to keep upgrades after resetting. The Dream Tree makes each prestige feel like a fresh start with new goals.

Pros and Cons

One of the best parts of Disgseum is how it just keeps on surprising you. Just when you think you’ve seen everything, new upgrades or mechanics appear. You might unlock larger digging areas, new sites, or even different ways to progress.

While the game is highly enjoyable, it could use more upgrade options that let players customize their play styles. Most upgrades feel linear, which might make the game feel repetitive for some over time. However, the Dream Tree does offer branching upgrades to keep things from getting stale too quickly.

Rating: 9/10

Disgseum is a fantastic choice and does a great job of combining simple gameplay, progression, and constant surprises. Again, at only $2.99 this game is well worth it!
