Dragon Slayer is the main story quest in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. It takes you across key areas like Bramblemead Valley, Whispering Swamp, and Ghornfell as you track down the dragon lord Velgar. Quest steps will be marked with beige circles on your map.
Here’s a step-by-step walkthrough of the Dragon Slayer quest.
Step 1: Speak to the Wise Old Man
You’ll find him in the church or around Bramblemead Valley.
He’ll ask for antlers from deer nearby. Hunt a few, bring back the antlers, and he’ll cast a locator spell.
This will point you to a castle in the valley.
Step 2: Find Cathan’s Journal
Head to the marked castle, which looks a lot like Lumbridge Castle but has Bandosian banners.
There are lots of goblins inside, so bring healing items.
Go to the top floor to find Cathan’s Journal near a loot chest.
Read the journal—it will send you to the Whispering Swamp to find a blue-flame door.
Step 3: Enter the Vault and Speak to Spitfoot
The blue-flame door leads into a Dragonkin Vault.
Inside, find and talk to Spitfoot, who will explain Cathan’s betrayal and his trip to Ghornfell.
Return to the Wise Old Man after the conversation.
Step 4: Travel to Ghornfell (Fractured Plains)
The Wise Old Man will suggest that if Cathan dared enter Ghornfell, he might have found a way to fight Velgar.
Head to the Fractured Plains, where the trail picks up again.
Go to Velgar’s Tower, which will now be marked on your map.
Step 5: Speak to Cathan’s Ghost
At the tower, you’ll meet Cathan’s ghost.
He’ll explain how he was captured by the Garou, dragged to Velgar, and sacrificed.
He’ll give you a recipe to craft a Challenge Horn—this is needed to face Velgar.
Step 6: Defeat General Velgar
Use the Challenge Horn at the tower to begin the fight.
Defeat Velgar to complete the quest’s final challenge.
Step 7: Return to the Wise Old Man
After defeating Velgar, speak to the Wise Old Man one final time to finish the quest.
