If you've been trying to find a bone axe and wondering why it's not showing up at the crafting table, here's the answer: it doesn't exist. The game skips bone tier for axes. Here's how to actually upgrade your axe the right way.

Step 1: Prep for a Bronze Axe
After the Stone Logging Axe, your next upgrade is the Bronze Logging Axe. You won’t find a Bone Axe recipe anywhere, so don’t waste time looking.
Step 2: Build a Kiln and a Furnace
To start upgrading, you'll need two stations:
Kiln – Make this after collecting clay from the swamp. Use it to turn wood into charcoal.
Furnace – This unlocks after you've mined Copper and Tin Ore at the Fractured Plains.
Once you have both ores, toss them into the Furnace to get Bronze Bars.
Step 3: Unlock the Smithing Anvil
After crafting your first bronze bar, the Smithing Anvil option becomes available. If it doesn’t unlock right away, make sure you also have:
Coarse Thread
A Vault Core
Once it's ready, use the anvil to craft your Bronze Logging Axe.
Step 4: Move On to the Iron Axe
With a Bronze Axe, you can now chop down Oak Trees, which opens up more crafting options. To go further, mine Iron Ore from the Stormtouched Highlands, usually around the cliffs.
Smelt it into Iron Bars, then craft the Iron Logging Axe at your anvil.
Final Blurb
Stone → Bronze → Iron. That’s the real upgrade path. Once you’ve got the iron axe, you’ll be ready for the bigger trees and better materials. If you're looking to get into more advanced gear like hard leather, padded cloth, or bite wood, you're on the right path. Chop on.
