Wuthering Waves: How to Beat the Lifer

The Lifer is one of the trickiest bosses in Wuthering Waves. Here’s the fast way to find it, remove its buffs, and take it down without getting crushed.
Where to Find the Lifer
The Lifer is inside the maze at Oakheart Highcourt, right under the giant tree.
Look for the southwest entrance near the Oakheart Highcourt Resonance Beacon. You can either climb the maze walls or fly over them to reach the center faster.
Inside, you’ll find the Lifer sitting by a huge board game with six pieces. The board isn’t just for fun — it controls the maze and helps you beat the boss.
How the Board Game Works
The board game is like Tic-Tac-Toe.
You play the black pieces, and the Lifer plays the white ones. If you line up three black pieces, you win. But the board also controls the maze walls. Whenever you put a black piece down, it opens gates in that direction.
You don't have to beat the board game to fight the Lifer, but you need it to open paths and remove its buffs.
How to Remove the Lifer’s Buffs
The Lifer has seven buffs.
Four of them can be removed, while the other three are permanent.
Removable Buffs
Growing Loneliness: Heals 10% HP every second after not being hit for 2 seconds.
Desire for Escape: Gains 25% more attack and an extra 25% damage boost every 20 seconds.
Impending Stalemate: Attack rises by 20% every time the Lifer deals damage (stacks up to 4 times).
Decay of Time: Huge resistance boost to all elements and 25% more max HP.
Permanent Buffs
Chains of Confinement: Immune to interruption above 50% HP.
Endless Game: Immobilization effects wear off faster.
Divine Garden: When taking a big hit, knocks enemies away and deals damage.
How to Find the Stakes of Imbalance
You’ll need the Sensor tool to find Stakes of Imbalance.
Use it near the Lifer, and purple lines will show four locations in the maze.
Follow these lines to reach the rooms. To open the gates, place black pieces on the board in the direction you want to go. Each room holds a Stake — sometimes behind an enemy, a breakable rock, or just sitting on a table.
Once you grab a Stake, place it in the right module near the Lifer to remove a buff. You’ll know it worked when the purple line turns yellow.
How to Defeat the Lifer
After removing the four buffs, the fight gets much easier.
You can either win the board game or pick "Fight it out!" at the chair to start the battle.
Without his buffs, the Lifer fights like a regular Chop Chop. His punches, grabs, and spin attacks won’t deal much damage anymore.
Lifer Rewards
First win: Premium Supply Chest
Second win: Premium Supply Chest + three Basic Supply Chests
Third win: Advanced Supply Chest + three Standard Supply Chests
You can also re-enable the buffs for a harder fight later, but no extra rewards or achievements come from it.
The Lifer Achievements
The Lifer’s Salvation: Defeat the Lifer once.
The Ring of The Lifer: Defeat the Lifer three times and open all nine chests.
Limit of Intelligence: Win the board game against the Lifer.
Alpha Go: Lose to the Lifer 10 times in the board game.
Tip for the board game:
Block the Lifer’s moves first. He’ll get impatient and mess up, giving you a clean shot at winning.
Final Blurb
The Lifer looks scary at first, but once you take away his buffs, he’s just another fancy floating eyeball. Take your time with the board game, follow the purple lines, and you’ll beat him easily — and grab a pile of chests while you’re at it.
