Nightmare Echoes are upgraded versions of old bosses in Wuthering Waves. Here's how to unlock each one and start farming them.

How to Unlock Most Nightmare Echoes

To unlock five Nightmare Echoes, complete the Dream Patrol 1 quest.

  • Find the white cat on a rooftop in southwest Ragunna City.

  • Talk to it to start Dream Patrol 1.

  • This unlocks access to:

    • Nightmare: Feilian Beringal

    • Nightmare: Thundering Mephis

    • Nightmare: Impermanence Heron

    • Nightmare: Mourning Aix

    • Nightmare: Inferno Rider

You must find each Nightmare Echo once on the map before you can fast travel to them. Nightmare bosses respawn about 30 seconds after defeat. They do not drop Ascension materials and do not cost Waveplates to fight.

How to Unlock Nightmare Tempest Mephis

Nightmare Tempest Mephis takes a few more steps.

Clear the Storm

  • Complete three stele challenges in Fagaceae Peninsula.

  • This starts the Where Wind Returns to Celestial Realms quest.

  • Clearing the quest removes the storm blocking part of the area.

Stand inside the marked altar zones and defeat enemies until progress reaches 100%.

Defeat the Lumiscale Construct

  • Find the Lumiscale Construct near Shores of Last Breath.

  • Damage it to 65% health, then chase it into the ruins.

  • Fight it again until a Dragon of Dirge variant spawns.

  • Defeat the dragon to finish this step.

Discover Dream Patrols

  • Locate four Dream Patrol arenas across Fagaceae Peninsula.

  • You do not need to complete the challenges, just find them.

  • After discovering all four, Nightmare Tempest Mephis will spawn at the Shores of Last Breath.

How to Unlock Nightmare Crownless

Nightmare Crownless requires the longest process.

Start Quest of Faith

  • Go to the northwest part of Penitent’s Rest.

  • A short dialogue starts the Quest of Faith side quest.

Complete Ruin Battles

  • Defeat enemies inside four ruin arenas.

  • Enemies can only be damaged when standing in purple torchlight zones.

  • In later battles, use Fae Ignis monsters to relight torches when needed.

Collect Writings

  • After each battle, collect the glowing writings on the ground.

  • Completing all four ruins finishes the quest.

Find Dream Patrols

  • After finishing Quest of Faith, the white cat tells you about Dream Patrol arenas.

  • Discover all four in Penitent’s End to unlock Nightmare Crownless.
