Blue Prince: Journal & Notes Guide

There’s no notepad or journal feature in Blue Prince... On purpose. The game expects you to grab a pen and paper like it’s 1994, and honestly, that’s kind of the point.

Why There's No In-Game Journal

The main reason? It's baked into the design. In the opening moments of the game, you're told you can't take anything in or out of the estate—no tools, no help. That includes a fancy in-game tracker. If you want to remember anything, you’ve got to write it down yourself. Yes, really.

The devs could’ve added a journal that logs room names or puzzle hints, but Blue Prince isn’t trying to help you like that. It wants you to notice details, mess up, learn things, and try again with that info tucked away in your real-world brain—or your $1 notebook.

How To Actually Take Notes

Players are getting creative:

  • Steam Notes: If you’re on PC, Steam now has a built-in notes tool that works in-game. Hit Shift+Tab and take text notes while you play.

  • OneNote or Notion: Some folks are going full detective board. Players organize room names, puzzle clues, screenshots, and theories with tabs and categories.

  • Screenshots (F12 on Steam): You’ll end up taking a hundred of these. Especially helpful when you don’t feel like copying down a creepy poem by hand.

  • Binders with tabs: Yes, seriously. Some players have turned this into their full personality.

  • Physical Journal: The fan-favorite. Doodles, diagrams, cryptic arrows, color-coded pages. It’s the perfect mix of detective and high school notebook chaos.

Final Blurb

It’s weird. It’s old-school. And sometimes it’s annoying. But taking your own notes in Blue Prince is exactly what makes it feel like your mystery. Regardless of if you’re scribbling in a margin or sorting digital screenshots into folders, the lack of an in-game journal is one of the best/worst things about the game—and probably why it sticks with you.
