How to Find and Capture Tracktail Lizards in Monster Hunter Wilds

Tracktail lizards are tiny, fast, and probably judging you from the safety of their sandy little hideouts. If you need one for the “Dareel’s Research Report” quest, you’re in for a bit of a search. Here’s where to find them and how to capture one before it scurries away.

Where to Find Tracktail Lizards

You’ll want to head to the Windward Plains, specifically the desert areas. A great place to start is Area 13, near the Oasis pop-up camp.

  • Stick to the dunes and keep an eye out for movement.

  • These lizards are rare, so don’t expect to find one right away.

  • They seem to be more active during the daytime, so don’t waste too much time searching at night.

Once you spot one (or two), don’t celebrate just yet—they’re quick and can disappear in a blink.

How to Capture a Tracktail Lizard

Now for the tricky part: catching the little guy.

  1. Equip your Capture Net—you’ll find it in the item bar or the Essential Items radial menu.

  2. Sneak up carefully. These lizards are skittish, so move slowly.

  3. If you’re impatient (or just bad at sneaking), rush in and fire fast—but you better be quick.

  4. Wait for your rectangle reticle to turn yellow-orange, then fire with L2/LT. (Pressing Square/X won’t help unless you enjoy fumbling with menus.)

Final Blurb

Bag one of these critters, and you’re done. Dareel will be thrilled. The lizard? Not so much.
