How to Fix Not Detecting Controller | RoadCraft Help

If your controller isn’t being detected in RoadCraft, the most reliable fix so far was to disable Steam Input from the game’s settings in your Steam library.
It’s a weird workaround, but it fixed a bunch of problems in the past.
Let’s walk through all the main fixes, from the quick ones to the "why do I even have to try this" ones.

Disable Steam Input First
This one worked for us and a lot of others in the demo version of the game. While we haven’t had any issues ourselves, it’s worth giving it a shot first.
How to do it:
Open Steam
Right-click RoadCraft in your Library
Click Properties
Open the Controller tab
In the dropdown, choose Disable Steam Input
Restart Steam, then launch the game again
Yes, disabling input to fix input... makes no sense, but welcome to PC gaming.
If that doesn’t work, try enabling Steam Input instead. Some users report the opposite setting fixed it depending on the controller type.
Make Sure Controller Is Turned On Before Launch
RoadCraft sometimes won’t detect your controller if it’s turned on after the game starts.
So:
Fully close the game
Turn your controller on first
Then launch RoadCraft
That’s it. This one fix alone has worked for players who had everything else set up properly.
Verify Game Files (Just In Case)
Corrupted files can break controller support.
To check for that:
Right-click RoadCraft in your Steam library
Go to Properties
Click Installed Files
Hit Verify integrity of game files
Let Steam scan it. If anything’s busted, it’ll re-download just that part and save you the reinstall headache.
Use DS4Windows for PS5 Controllers
If you're using a PS5 controller and RoadCraft just keeps ignoring it, try DS4Windows.
This tool tricks your PC into thinking it’s an Xbox controller, which a lot more games support by default.
It’s free, lightweight, and takes about 2 minutes to set up. Worth trying before blaming your hardware.
Use a USB Cable Instead of Bluetooth
Wireless support can be hit or miss, especially for Xbox dongles or DualSense over Bluetooth.
If you haven’t tried it yet, plug your controller in directly and launch the game. Some players had issues that instantly went away after going wired.
Other General Fixes to Try
Update your controller firmware
Unplug other controllers or input devices
Restart Steam and your PC after changing controller settings
Avoid switching from mouse/keyboard mid-game... it doesn’t always transition smoothly
Check Steam Big Picture controller layout settings, in case a custom config is interfering
Final Blurb & FAQ
RoadCraft doesn’t always play nice with controllers at launch, but the fixes are usually quick once you know where to look.
Disabling Steam Input, turning on the controller early, and going wired will solve the issue for most setups.
You don’t need any special tools thankfully, jus a little patience and maybe a USB cable that hasn’t lived in a junk drawer for five years (calling myself out with that one).
