How to Save in RoadCraft

How to Save in RoadCraft

RoadCraft uses auto-save only, and it’s a bit picky about when it actually kicks in. There’s no manual save option, so if you quit or return to the hub too early, you can easily lose hours of progress without realizing it.

Here’s how to make sure your game actually saves when it’s supposed to.

When RoadCraft Saves Automatically

RoadCraft triggers an auto-save during these key actions:

  • After completing a main objective

  • After delivering key materials or building major structures

  • When transitioning between levels or zones (not always reliable)

You won’t always see a notification or icon, which makes it hard to tell if your progress is locked in.

Returning to Hub Can Wipe Progress

This is the big one. If you return to the hub too early or without hitting an auto-save trigger, your current level progress might not be saved at all.

To avoid losing progress:

  • Finish any major objective before going back

  • Try driving to a safe zone or base area, then wait a few seconds

  • Watch for the small loading icon in the corner (usually means it’s saving)

If you're mid-mission, do not return to hub unless you're 100% sure an objective was completed recently.

There Is No Manual Save Option

You can’t quick save, manual save, or force a save from the pause menu. It’s all handled automatically by the game.

Hopefully this gets added in a future update, but as of now, you're stuck with what the system decides to track.

Best Practices to Avoid Losing Progress

  • Always complete an objective before quitting or returning to hub

  • If you're unsure, pause the game and let it sit for a bit before exiting

  • Don’t rely on checkpoint logic—this isn’t a shooter, it’s a simulator with consequences

  • On consoles like PS5, use the console’s suspend/resume feature if you're stepping away mid-task

Final Blurb & FAQ

RoadCraft’s save system is a bit too laid back for how much time missions can take. Until a manual save gets added (if ever), always make sure you finish something meaningful before exiting. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself rebuilding the same road twice... and it won’t be any more fun the second time.
