PEAK How to Fix Voice Chat Not Working Audio Issue

Written by Jason B.

If in-game voice chat isn’t working in PEAK it seems to be a common, but fixable, problem. Players have reported mic movement showing in mirrors but no sound being heard, even when settings look fine.

Here are some potential voice chat fixes.

Start with These Basics

  • Make sure voice chat is enabled in PEAK’s settings

  • Check your input/output devices in the game and in Windows sound settings

  • Try restarting the game, especially after changing mic settings

  • Verify game files through Steam to rule out corruption

Swap Between Vulkan and DirectX12

Make sure everyone in your party is using the same graphics API. Go to launch settings and try switching from Vulkan to DirectX12 or vice versa. It only works if the entire group uses the same one.

Fancy Mic Users – Try This Port Trick

If you're using a high-end mic, PEAK may only recognize your mic when plugged into the left input port.

Switching ports has fixed voice for multiple players, even when everything else failed.

Avoid Conflicting Audio Software

Apps like Voicemod, VoiceMeeter, or anything doing virtual audio routing can block PEAK’s voice system.

Disable or uninstall those tools temporarily and try again.

Fix DNS Blocking (Advanced)

If you're using Pi-hole or a DNS blocker, make sure ns.photonengine.io isn’t being blocked.

You can test by typing that address into a browser. If it says “HTTP not supported,” it’s reachable. If not, unblock it and restart PEAK.

Weird But Working Workarounds

  • Join a Discord voice call, mute it, and then launch PEAK. Some players say their in-game mic only works when Discord VC is active.

  • Change your Windows audio output device, launch PEAK, then change it back.

Update and Run as Admin

Make sure Windows is up to date, then try running PEAK as an administrator. Also check your antivirus isn’t blocking the game.

Final Blurb

PEAK’s voice system is weirdly picky. If it’s not the mic port, it’s the graphics API. Try the DX12/Vulkan swap, move your mic input if you’re on a Scarlett, and avoid audio routing software.

If all else fails, give it a day... sometimes it fixes itself after a reset or, worst-case scenario, you can try a reinstall but hopefully you dont have to.

FAQ

Q: Why does my mic work in every other game except PEAK?

PEAK has unique audio routing issues, especially with external interfaces. The Scarlett Solo fix and DirectX12/Vulkan mismatch are the biggest causes.

Q: Why can I see my mic moving in the mirror but no one hears me?

That usually means the mic is working locally, but PEAK isn't transmitting it. Try restarting, switching graphics APIs, or checking DNS blocks.

Q: Does everyone in the group need the same graphics setting?

Yes. Voice chat can break if some use Vulkan and others use DirectX12. Make sure everyone matches.

Q: What if none of this works?

Try waiting for the next island reset or update. Some bugs have resolved on their own after daily resets.
