Secret of the Mimic FPS Unlock & Cap Explained
Written by Andrew Hammel
Right now, FNAF Secret of the Mimic is locked at 60 FPS by default. There is no official in-game setting to change this yet, and the developers do not recommend trying to remove the cap manually.
Why the Game is Locked at 60 FPS
Steel Wool confirmed that some gameplay mechanics actually depend on framerate. This includes puzzle timings and certain difficulty elements.
If you unlock the FPS manually, you may accidentally break the game... including puzzles that become unbeatable or sequences that trigger incorrectly.
Can You Unlock It Anyway?
Technically, it might be possible using external tools or config file edits, however, Steel Wool warns against doing that for now. They are planning an official fix in a future patch.
Until then, trying to raise the framerate could make parts of the game much harder or unplayable.
What the Developers Said
A future patch will remove the 60 FPS cap officially
Gameplay systems are currently tied to framerate
Manual unlocks are not recommended and may cause issues
Final Blurb
If you're waiting for an FPS unlock in Secret of the Mimic, sit tight. The devs plan to release an official patch to decouple framerate from gameplay.
For now, forcing it above 60 could break key parts of the game.
