So, you've made it to Chapters 1-3: To the Forest in Monster Hunter Wilds—congrats! The good news? You’re about to explore a lush, mysterious forest. The bad news? The local wildlife is not thrilled about your visit.
To The Forest Guide
Step 1: Prep Before the Trip
Before heading out, Alma gives you some friendly advice—upgrade your gear. She’s not wrong. Monsters hit harder now, and walking into the forest unprepared is a great way to take a scenic nap in the dirt.
Visit the Smithy to craft better weapons or armor.
Stock up on potions, traps, and whetstones (because dull weapons make for a long, sad hunt).
Eat a meal at camp. A hungry hunter is a dead hunter.
Step 2: Tracking Down the Chatacabra
Your target? A Chatacabra—an amphibious monster that loves caves and has a bad habit of throwing mud everywhere.
Open your map and find its location.
Select Begin Field Survey, then hit Accept & Depart.
Follow the footprints, scratches, and other monster breadcrumbs leading to its den.
Pro tip: The Chatacabra is basically a giant, angry frog. It likes to stick to walls and can coat itself in mud for extra defense. If it starts climbing, be ready to dodge whatever nonsense it’s about to throw at you.
Step 3: Fighting in the Sand Dunes
If the battle takes you to the sand dunes, things get… interesting.
Dunes collapse when attacked, so use them to trip up the monster (or yourself, if you’re unlucky).
Sand can act as cover—use it to break line-of-sight if things get dicey.
If the fight drags on, the Chatacabra might retreat back to its cave. Follow it, but don’t rush in blindly—it likes ambush tactics.
Step 4: Wrapping Up the Hunt
Once you slay or capture the Chatacabra, loot its body for materials. If you're capturing, bring shock traps and tranquilizer bombs—knocking it out is usually easier than a full-on brawl.
Head back to Base Camp, check in with the Smithy, and prepare for the next mission. Because if there’s one thing Monster Hunter teaches you—it’s that there's always a bigger monster waiting around the corner.
Now, onto the next challenge! (Hopefully, one that doesn’t involve getting buried in mud.)
