Uma Musume Pretty Derby Affinity Guide
Written by Priya Kapoor
Affinity in Umamusume: Pretty Derby controls how likely you are to pass on good skills and stats during inheritance. If your affinity is low, your runs will struggle to get strong bonuses, even with good support cards.
How Affinity Works
Every girl in Uma Musume belongs to hidden compatibility groups.
When you start training, the game checks how many of your chosen legacies and their sub-legacies match your main character’s groups.
If your main character and a legacy are in the same group, you get that group’s point value.
If one of the sub-legacies also matches that group, you get more points.
The game checks all groups that match and adds everything together.
You also get bonus points if both legacies are in the same group together.
Extra Bonus from G1 Wins
Winning the same G1 race with your legacy and sub-legacy gives extra compatibility.
Each pair adds +3 affinity points:
If Legacy A and Sub-legacy B both won Arima Kinen, you get +3 points.
If Legacy A and Legacy B also won it, that’s another +3.
These bonuses stack and help push your score high enough for a full double-O inheritance.
Character Versions Don't Matter
All versions of a girl count the same for affinity.
So whether it’s a seasonal, collab, or base version, just pick the name and it works the same in the system.
Using the Affinity Calculator
Use the Uma Musume Pretty Derby affinity calculator before starting your run.
Pick your main character, then add your legacy picks. The tool shows your total affinity score and checks all sub-legacies for you.
It’s the easiest way to make sure you hit the double-O threshold before wasting time on a bad setup.
Final Blurb
Affinity is one of the most important mechanics in Uma Musume Pretty Derby, and one of the most overlooked. A bad affinity score can ruin your build. Use the calculator every time to set yourself up right.
TL;DR
Affinity affects inheritance strength in Uma Musume Pretty Derby.
It’s based on hidden character groups shared between your main, legacy, and sub-legacy.
G1 race wins shared between them give extra points.
Different character versions count the same.
Always use the calculator to check your total score before starting.
