How to Lay Cable in RoadCraft

Here's how to actually lay power cable in RoadCraft and get the concrete plant (and your mission) up and running.
Find the Right Vehicle First
Before anything else, you need two specific vehicles:
The transformer truck — it comes pre-loaded with a transformer
The cable-layer — it looks like a tracked utility tank
You can find both by opening your map and checking the Vehicles tab. Look for the transformer truck first and deliver it to the marked facility.
Then, you’ll swap to the cable-layer to actually lay the power line.
Make sure both vehicles are out of the garage and ready to go. If you can’t see them, check if they’re stored or stuck in the wrong area.

Activate the Cable Layer
Hop into the tracked cable-laying vehicle and activate the cable system using the UI button or hotkey (check the prompt when you enter).
Once activated, you’ll see a blue overlay appear around the power station you’re starting from. That’s your origin point.
Now your goal is to drive this vehicle all the way to the destination, usually a facility like the concrete factory or workshop, while dragging the invisible cable behind you.
The cable is infinite, but you still need to make it physically from point A to point B without getting stuck.
Scout the Route (Trust Me)
Before you go barreling into the forest with a 10-ton tank and a dream, take your scout vehicle (the little jeep) and clear a path:
Use your object scanner or just eyeball a route
If you see any tree stumps, use the Rusty Mulcher to grind them down
Avoid steep terrain, narrow gaps, or muddy swamp areas where you’ll get stuck and fold the cable tool by accident
A clean route saves you a lot of pain. Cable-laying stops instantly if you hit anything too tall or sharp.
Start Laying the Cable
Once you’ve planned a path:
Drive your cable-layer slowly from the power station toward the target building
Avoid tight turns, stumps, deep mud, or steep rocks
If your vehicle folds the cable tool, it’ll stop laying cable and you’ll have to backtrack or reset
If the cable route gets stuck, try nudging around it or reverse slightly to fix the angle
When you reach the red circle or the end-zone of the route, the system should automatically connect the power, completing the objective.
You’ll know it worked if the target facility turns on and the mission progresses.
What If Nothing Happens?
You might have laid cable in the wrong direction; you always start at the transformer/power source
If the cable didn’t fully reach, make sure you hit the actual objective marker, not just the general area
You might need to re-activate the cable tool if it folded during the route
Check your map for mission details under the infrastructure tab. If you still see the red zone glowing, it didn’t connect yet.
Final Blurb & FAQ
Laying cable in RoadCraft isn’t hard once you know what the game forgot to tell you. It's just a matter of using the right vehicles, clearing the way, and dragging your big cable beast from point A to point B without folding it into a stump.
Simple, right?
FAQ
Q: What does ‘infrastructure: electricity’ mean in RoadCraft?
It means you need to lay power cable from a transformer to a building using the cable-layer vehicle.
Q: How do I start laying cable?
Enter the tracked cable-laying vehicle, activate the cable tool, and drive to the destination.
Q: Why does my cable keep stopping?
You’re hitting stumps, rocks, or trying to turn too tightly. This folds the tool and halts progress.
Q: Do I need to deliver a transformer first?
Yes. Look for the transformer truck and deliver it to the site before you begin laying cable.
Q: Can I go any route I want?
Yes, the cable is infinite, but you still need to drive a full clean path without getting stuck or blocked.
