Punish or Leave Lumacchio in Lies of P Overture DLC
Written by Andrew Hammel
After beating Lumacchio in the Overture DLC, you get a short moment to choose between punishing him or walking away. A lot of players stop here, unsure if one path locks you out of an item, bonus scene, or affects the ending.
It doesn’t. The choice is mostly about how you feel. Both choices are safe to pick, but only one gives you a little more story.

What Happens if You Punish Lumacchio
If you pick punish, you’ll get a short line of dialogue and a death scene. That’s it. You still get the “You feel warmer” message after it ends, and you can walk straight down the stairs to the nearby Stargazer.
No new weapon, side reward, or change to the story.
What Happens if You Leave Lumacchio
If you leave him alive, he yells at you, but doesn’t stop you. You get the same warmth message, and the same Stargazer. However, if you rest and then go back upstairs, you’ll find a letter from Lumacchio sitting in the room.
It doesn’t change anything really, but the letter is some extra lore. He says you’re no better than him, calls you a liar, and hints that you’ll face harder choices down the road.
Again, there’s no gear or upgrade tied to it.
Does This Choice Change the Ending?
No. Neither choice affects the ending of the Overture DLC or main game. There’s also no humanity system being tracked in the background. It’s purely a roleplay moment.
Which Option Should You Pick?
If you just want the fastest route, punish him and move on. You miss nothing important.
But if you're into lore, leave him. After resting at the Stargazer nearby, head back up the stairs and you’ll find his letter. It adds a little depth to his story, calling you out and questioning your choices.
There’s no right or wrong here. Just ask yourself... do you want closure or consequences? Or maybe you just want to save a grand total of five seconds and get back to dodging giant monsters.
Both work.
Final Blurb
This one’s all about how you feel really. There’s no gear or lore change that affects anything later. You can punish him and walk off... or leave him to mope and find a bitter little note later.
Either way, your hands are clean enough.
