The Road to Brightoak is one of the first quests in Mirthwood, designed to introduce players to basic gameplay mechanics like exploration, NPC interactions, and commerce. It’s straightforward but essential for getting acclimated to the game world.

Meet someone new.
Pick up a quest.
Purchase an item.

Preparation Before Starting:

You’ll need to have completed the Prologue and arrived in the Free Lands.
Gather any starting resources (like coins) to make the purchasing objective easier.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough:

1. Travel to Brightoak

Locate the Path:
- From your farmhouse, head south, following the gravel path.
- Look for stone walls that indicate you're nearing Brightoak.
Follow the Signage:
- Signposts along the way will help direct you toward the town.
Encounter and Avoid Challenges:
- While en route, you might encounter low-level wildlife. You can choose to engage or avoid them since combat is not mandatory for this quest.

2. Meet Someone New

Introduce Yourself:
- Upon entering Brightoak approach an NPC.
- Greet them by pressing the interact button (default: E). This simple action builds rapport with villagers and introduces you to the town’s community system.

3. Pick Up a Quest

Locate a Quest Giver:
- Look for yellow exclamation marks (!) over characters or objects to identify available quests.
- A good starting point is the Market Value tent in the town square, near the Bog & Briar Inn.
Accept the Quest:
- Interact with the quest giver to take on a side task, which you can complete later as part of your exploration.

4. Purchase an Item

Visit a Merchant:
- Look for traders near the Market Value tent or inside the Bog & Briar Inn.
Choose a Basic Item:
- With your starting coins, you can purchase essentials such as:
  - A small food item (cheapest option).
  - Basic tools or a piece of equipment to prepare for future challenges.

Completion and Follow-Up

After fulfilling all objectives, the quest will complete automatically, and you'll gain access to the next main quest, Fate's First Whispers.
